Song Junkies Showcase Review

10/27/2015 – Song Junkies Showcase Review

We were on hand for our friends at Song Junkies‘ first showcase on Oct. 27. The night was filled with a selection of performances from the recent Just For The Love Of It disc that did not disappoint. The show kicked off right at 7:00 PM at Room 5 Music located in the heart of Hollywood. The room was packed and the the energy and enthusiasm was high as the six featured artists prepared to take the stage. Each artist performed two to three songs apiece and performed at least one song featured on a Song Junkies album.

Up first was the talented Abby Posner of Abby & The Myth. Abby stepped up to the mic and proceeded to run through songs from Song Junkies albums Indie Grass and Just For The Love Of It. Her folky voice was the perfect way to start to the night. Following Abby is no easy feat, but John Torres delivered by wowing the audience with his soulful vocal performance, which can be heard on Euro Memoirs and the newly-released Just For The Love Of It.

Danny Hamilton took the stage next with his ukulele and sang “Soul Shine” and “Love is the Way” from Just For The Love Of It. Both songs brought a cheerfulness to the showcase, and captured the easygoing sound that Hamilton so easily expressed in his performance. The duo (actual size) graced us with their musical presence as they drove all the way from Riverside to perform three great songs from their album All American Pop.

Jesse Olema and Hot Trouble took this Southern Californian audience down south of the Mason Dixon line with his virtuoso fiddle playing. His rustic and rootsy sound left all in need of a big glass of southern sweet tea. As a surprise to the audience, Lindsay Tomasic, owner of Song Junkies, took the stage and performed three of her originals to a jubilant response. It is easy to see why she has such a handle on great music, because she herself makes great music. All in all, the night’s audience was tickled by the whistling solos on many of the songs and sang along with many catchy choruses. The evening was a great success and Song Junkies is looking forward to hosting more events like this in Los Angeles.
