Meet the Team – Judd Maher

For this month’s Meet the Team, we head west to Salt Lake City to chat with our VP, Creative, Judd Maher! Judd has literally produced hundreds if not thousands of tracks, and has been in the production music business for the better part of 30 years! Let’s start off the interview!

What are your top 3 favorite Warner/Chappell Production Music tracks?

The first one is a no brainer. . .
Revocate Animos” from Non-Stop Producer Series‘  Grand Adventure album. I mean come on! The back half of that piece, by our own Rhett Nelson Esq., is out of the park and across the street!

Second would be. . .
Your World Is Calling” track from Non-Stop Producer Series . The composer, Jamen Brooks, is the whole package: composer, performer, singer and engineer. Very few guys can do it all the way Jamen can. His hooks always raise the bar.

And third. . .
Will You Marry Me” from Non-Stop Premiere’s  Romantic Comedy 2 album. Lisle Moore is as gifted a composer as I have worked with. The back half from 1:40 to the end is some of the best thematic orchestral writing I’ve ever heard.

What is your favorite part of your job?

After doing this for going on three decades,, I have to say the biggest kick is still the recording sessions. It’s where the rubber hits the road, and I love being in that moment as a producer and helping to shape how it actually goes down. Nothing quite compares to the feeling of laying down a great track on a great piece of music. Also, the daily collaboration with great composers and uber-talented musicians, I learn from them every single day. I consider it a tremendous gift to have been able to create music all these years.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Easy, my hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. It’s all about family and history.

What is your favorite album of all time? You can only choose one.

I hate “you can only choose one” questions. Growing up, my kids were constantly running me through the “you can only choose one” mill. “Who’s your favorite guitar player dad?” “What’s your favorite song dad?” “Who was the coolest musician you ever worked with dad?” I told them, “I won’t answer your question unless I can have three favorites,” so I’ll tell you the same thing. Here they are (chronologically).

The Beatles – Revolver
Led Zeppelin – 1
Chicago Transit Authority (1st album)
